According to the news, US basketball star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner was detained in Russia on drug changes, now her family and supporters are demanding her release soon.
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues and many across the world have been suffering, US-Russian tensions also escalate, and now hundreds of strangers have joined the effort.
Brittney Yevette Griner is the most outstanding US basketball star who won the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury championship and spent her off-seasons playing for the Russian team UMMC Ekaterinburg.
Regarding the drugs allegations made on Grinner 31, The Russian Federal Customs Service released the statement and said that an American was carrying hash oil at Sheremetyevo Airport; however, the traveler’s name was not identified.
However, another statement discloses that “As a US citizen was passing through the green channel at Sheremetyevo Airport upon arriving from New York, a working dog from the Sheremetyevo Customs canine department detected the possible presence of narcotic substances in the accompanying luggage,” Apart from that, the presence of vapes with specifically smelling liquid was confirmed by the customs inspection of the hand luggage which the US citizen was carrying.
Besides that, an expert also determined that the liquid was cannabis oil (hash oil), which is a narcotic substance.”
Though it is still not clear when Griner was arrested at the airport, Her whereabouts have not been disclosed since she was detained.
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues in its second week, Griner’s ordeal comes. A series of threats was released by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday against Ukraine and Western powers. He said by issuing the threats that ‘’the sanctions introduced on his country are equivalent of a declaration of war.”
