C.D.C said the Delta variant is now the dominant strain in the U.S.!

According to the C.D.C in the U.S. a highly contagious variant of Covid that was initially identified in India is now dominant strain. Data updated by the C.D.C. on Tuesday evening shows that the Delta variant of all new cases of Covid across the U.S. was estimated to account for 51.7% as of July 3.

The variant is detected in all 50 states and accounted for more than 50% of new cases in five of the ten regions where the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services divides the country. According to C.D.C., “.Variant proportions are dynamic and difficult to predict due to reporting delays, the presence of multiple variants, and changing incidence.” C.D.C. data showed a little over a month ago; the delta variant of all new cases in the U.S was estimated to account for just 3%.

According to experts and health officials, the delta variant is a more infectious version of the disease, and the initial data reveals that it may increase the risk of hospitalization. The variant is also dangerous for people who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated. The current evidence suggests that the full of Covid vaccine is highly effective in preventing severe illness and hospitalization.

According to WHO, it was 1st detected in India in October 2020, and now it is found in 98 countries across the globe. It was first seen in the U.S. in March. In May, WHO declared Delta a “variant of concern.” Last month C.D.C. upgraded its classification of the strain from “variant of interest” to a “variant of concern.” Both C.D.C. and WHO say that it spreads more quickly than others and causes more severe disease.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus during a press briefing on July 2, warned that the delta variant is “spreading quickly in countries with low and high vaccination coverage. The variant continues to evolve and mutate, which requires constant evaluation and “careful adjustment of the public health response. We are in a very dangerous period of the pandemic.”

According to C.D.C. director Rochelle Walensky, health officials are concerned about the delta variant mutating to a point where it escapes the existing Covid vaccines. According to data by Johns Hopkins University, since the start of the Covid, the U.S. has reported more than 33.7 million confirmed Covid cases and over 605,000 deaths.
