One of the most extensive aisles at the grocery store is the bread aisle. There are many options to look through. It can be not very clear to determine which one is the healthiest. Bread is an excellent source of whole grains, which are excellent sources of nutrients.
According to Roxana Ehsani, LDN, CSSD, RD, MS, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in Las Vegas, Nevada, “Eating whole grains such as 100% whole wheat bread provides our bodies with essential nutrients, such as dietary fibre, healthy fats, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, vitamin E, antioxidants and phytochemicals.”
Eating whole grains bread reduces the chance of heart disease, type 2 diabetics, and colon cancer. Roxana also shares that Dietary fibre found in whole grains, and eating them can help support a healthy dietary track. Eating whole-grain bread could help to keep blood sugar levels in control than eating white bread. Dietary fibres are digested slowly in the body and provides a slow and steady release of energy over time. But not all bread is healthy.
List of bread that is not healthy according to Roxana Ehsani –
When the bread is filled with additives – some bread with a long self-life may have lots of preservatives and additives or added sugar or salt to increase self-life.
When the bread is made with lots of fat – for example, brioche bread made with lots of butter or sweetbread in which butter, oils, and sugar are there.
When the bread is made with white flour, bread made with white flour or enriched lacks nutritional value. When the bread is made with refined flour, the bran and the germ are removed and some minerals and vitamins.
When an excess of the bread is consumed – If bread is eaten in excess quantity, it can be unhealthy or have only bread and ignore all types of grains.
Celiac disease or a gluten allergy one is having – if a person with celiac disease is consuming bread, it can be unhealthy. Eating regular bread instead of gluten-free bread for these kinds of people may cause dangerous allergic reactions.
Choose a bread that has fibre and whole grains. Even sprouted bread is a great option.
