Delta Variant, which is highly contagious, is spreading fast!

With the Delta Variant spreading (highly contagious), particularly among unvaccinated Americans, for much of the country to put masks back on, an expert said. According to Dr. Leana Wen, at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, a visiting professor of health policy and management and an emergency physician, “We are at a very different point in the pandemic than we were a month ago. And therefore, we should follow the example of LA County and say that if there are places where vaccinated and unvaccinated people are mixing, then indoor mask mandates should still apply.”

Wen said mask mandates would be in place while leaders move towards proving vaccination status to increase the rate of vaccination. According to data from CDC, about 28% of the US population lives in a county considered to have Covid transmission. Of the total US population, only 48.7% is fully vaccinated, according to CDC. The number is far below what the health expert has expected.

Cases are increasing in the US. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the country averaged 37,055 new cases a day across a week as of Tuesday. Xavier Becerra, US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, signed a renewal for another 90 days of the public health emergency status due to Covid because some states are seeing a particularly severe impact of Covid.

Dr. Thomas Dobbs, State Health Officer, said Tuesday they will have rough weeks; Delta is hitting them strongly. Over the next month or two, they will see people die for no good reason. At the same time, the virus spreads among unvaccinated children and adults. Many of them who are not eligible for vaccination are facing the impact. Last week, more than 23,000 children got Covid, which was nearly double what was reported at the end of June.

Children are at a lower risk of getting severe illness than older adults. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said that the claims that children are not affected are not true. According to many experts, local vaccination mandates could be an important step to increase the vaccination rate and bringing the control under control.
