PGA CEO Apologizes for Lack of Crowd Control on PGA Championship!!

There was plenty on the line for Phil Mickelson that Sunday. After a roller-coaster last round at the PGA Championship, Phil took home the trophy, winning his sixth major & becoming the oldest man to win a major tournament.

On Friday at the PGA Championship, Phil kept right on going till he tied for the lead with Louis Oosthuizen going into the weekend at Kiawah Island. Even at age 50. Trial on the toughest range as he started dropping shots by dropping putts, Phil began to look ageless with excellent iron play and a pair of big birdies that directed to a 31 on the front nine of the Ocean Course and a 3-under 69.

Oosthuizen had the most satisfying round of the week going, not so much because of his 5 birdies, but because of a card with no bogeys. That closed on the 18th hole that cost him the outright lead. He still had a 68 and will be in the last group Saturday.

“While we are busy welcoming enthusiastic fan engagement, we regret that a flash of high elation and pent-up emotion by viewers during the outcome of yesterday’s historic PGA Championship briefly bewildered security and made two members and their caddies feel vulnerable,” stated Seth Waugh, the PGA CEO, in a comment.

“We ever put player safety at the top of our list and are obliged order was restored. I have spoken to the players and retracted on behalf of the Association.” Originally, the tournament was announced that participation would be capped at 10,000 viewers per day due to coronavirus protocols. But with restrictions being freed across the country and in South Carolina, the public was considerably larger throughout the event. There were thousands and thousands of people lining both sides of the fairway on the 18th Sunday.
